Semakovskoye gas field

The field is a partially offshore and a partially onshore gas field located in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area in the West Siberia region of Russia.

Semakovskoye gas field

The Semakovskoye gas field was discovered in 1971 in the South Kara Sea Area.
The estimated gas reserves were increased to 47.9bcm in 2014.
The gas field lies partly in the waters of Taz Bay in the Kara Sea and partly on land in the Taz Peninsula.
The project site is located close to the existing gas production, processing, and transportation near the city of Novy Urengoy.

Semakovskoye is considered to be a large gas field as it is estimated to hold more than 320 billion cubic metres (bcm) of recoverable gas reserves.

The gas field is being developed by RusGazAlyans, a 50:50 joint-venture partnership between Gazprom and RusGazDobycha under a master agreement signed between both the parties at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2016.

RusGazDobycha is a daughter of the National Chemical Group (NCG), beneficiaries are A. Rotenberg (close associates of V. Putin) and ex - Deputy Chairman of the Board of SMP Bank A. Obolensky.

Gazprom and RusGazDobycha reached a final investment decision (FID) on the Semakovskoye gas field development project in June 2020.

Commercial production at the Semakovskoye field is slated to start in 2022.
By that time, 19 wells will be built there.
The offshore production complex will be constructed on an artificial island with a steel caisson base, which will be replaced by a reinforced concrete during the later phase of development.

The extracted gas will be fed into Gazprom's gas transmission system.
