The Phase 1 of the $4.2 billion Sangomar project would develop 230 million barrels, at a production capacity of 100,000 barrels a day.

The Sangomar Field will be developed using a conventional (and often utilised) development concept with subsea production and injection wells tied back to a standard floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
In July 2020 Russian Lukoil signed an agreement with Cairn Energy to acquire a 40% interest in the Sangomar, Rufisque and Sangomar Deep project for $300 million. In August 2020 Woodside has blocked Cairn's stake sale to Lukoil, by exercising its pre-emption rights.
