Karabakh field

Karabakh is an offshore oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, in the northern part of Absheron archipelago.

The Karabakh field settles in the southern basin of the Caspian Sea.
In 1997-1998, the area was drilled by a consortium of the Caspian International Oil Company and in 2020, discovered as an oil field through a jointdrilling operation by SOCAR and Equinor.

The Karabakh field is located 130 km to the east of Baku.
The sea depth in the field varies in the range of 250-450 meters.
The field lies in shallow water, around 15 km northeast of the super- giant Azeri Chirag Guneshli (ACG) field.

On May 30, 2018, SOCAR and Equinor signed The Risk Service (RPS) Agreement on the Development of the Karabakh Oil Field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.
Each company has a 50% stake in the project.

It should be noted that the drilling of the 1st appraisal well on the 'Karabakh field began on December 23, 2019.

SOCAR's CDC drilling company drilled this well with Dada Gorgud floating drilling rig at a depth of 180 meters.
Productive layers of the deposit are located at a depth of 3.4 km.

The oil reserves of the Karabakh field are estimated at 60 million tons.
In the early years oil production at the Karabakh field will amount to more than 1.5 million tonnes per year.

Offshore work on Karabakh field got started on August 10, 2020, when Karabakh support block was sent to the sea.
Engineering works to complete construction of the platform are expected to be finished by the end of 2022.
