1958 - graduated from the Moscow I.M. Gubkin Institute of Oil and Gas
June 1992 - appointed mayor of Moscow by the President of Russian Federation
June 16, 1996 - elected mayor of Moscow with 89% of the vote
December 19, 1999 - reelected with 69% of the vote
September 2000 - March, 2001 - member of the presidium of the State Council of the Russian Federation
December 2003 - re-elected mayor of Moscow for the third time. He has announced his decision not to seek a fourth term in December 2007.

Married second time. Luzhkov's wife, Yelena Baturina, is the only woman on Forbes's list of Russia's richest people and controls Inteka Holding, an equity fund with a capitalization of 82.9 billion rubles ($3.15 billion).
They have four children.
