Born on July, 26, 1962 in Sukhumi (Georgia).
In 1984 - graduated from Gorki Institute of water transport engineering (shipbuilding department).
Also, graduated from the Academy of Public Economy, qualification - "finances and bank business".
Since January, 1994 - Chairman of the board of the Nizhni Novgorod Social commercial bank "Guarantee".
At the end of 1996 - was elected president of oil company "NORSI-oil".
In May, 1997 - was elected first deputy Minister of RF fuel and power.
Since 1997 - deputy Chairman of RF Government committee on coordination of Federal executive powers and RF Subjects powers activity concerning agreements on products division.
Since 1997 - member of the board of the State representatives in "Transneft".
On April, 24 - was appointed RF Government Chairman.
On August, 23, 1998 - by the bill of RF President the whole of Kirienko Government resigned.
In 1999 he was elected member of the Russian Parliament and then was appointed Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative to the Volga Federal District in May 2000.
In 2001 he took the office of Chairman in the Russian Federation Committee on Chemical Disarmament.
Kirienko was appointed to head Rosatom, the Federal Atomic Energy Agency, on November 30, 2005.
Since December 2007, Sergei Kirienko has served as Chief Executive Officer of ROSATOM.
On October 5, 2016 russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed Sergei Kiriyenko First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.
