Biography

Born in 1931 in Sverdlovsk region, Talitsa district, village Butka.
In 1955 - graduated from the Kirov Ural Polytechnical Institute, qualification - engineer-builder.
In 1961 - joined CPSU. In 1968 - appointed head of the construction department of Svervlovsk Party Committee.
In 1975 - secretary of Sverdlovsk CPSU Committee responsible for industrial development of the region.
In 1976-85 - first secretary of Sverdlovsk CPSU Committee.
In 1978-1989 - deputy of USSR Supreme Soviet (member of Union Soviet).
From 1984 to 1985 and from 1986 to 1988 - member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
In 1981 - was elected member of CPSU Central committee (held this position till 1990).
In 1981 - head of construction department of CPSU Central committee.
In June, 1985 - secretary of the Party central committee on construction issues.
From December, 1985 to November, 1987 - first secretary of CPSU Moscow city committee.
From November, 1987 to 1989 - first deputy Chairman of the USSR Gosstroi.
In March, 1989 - Yeltsin was elected People`s deputy of the USSR.
From June, 1989 to December, 1990 - member of the USSR Supreme Soviet.
In March, 1990 - was elected RF People`s deputy.
On May, 29, 1990 - elected Chairman of RF Supreme Soviet. In July, 1990 - left the Party.
Since June, 12, 1991 - President of the Russian Federation.
On July, 3, 1996 was elected President of the Russian Federation for the second term.
On December, 31, 1999 - delegated his powers to the acting RF President - V.V.Putin.
