Malaysian state oil firm Petronas said its exploration arm has discovered gas at two wells off Sarawak state on Borneo island. The discovery at the two wells will help raise the prospects of the remaining undrilled territory in the two areas, Petronas said in a statement.
Sarawak is one Malaysia's largest gas producing areas. Malaysia is a major oil and gas producer in Asia. Production tests carried out at the two wells flowed gas at a combined rate of
75.4 million standard cubic feet (SCF) of gas per day, it said. Petronas said the discovery followed efforts so far this year by its exploration and production arm Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd.
The first discovery well is the F38.1. The well is in Block SK310 which is an open acreage in the Central Luconia Province off Sarawak. The second well, the F9.2, is within Block SK308.
