Unreported consumption of natural gas in Armenia is decreasing

Yerevan, March 20 - Neftegaz.RU. Unreported (shadow) consumption of natural gas in Armenia is decreasing, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a press conference.

According to him, despite  the growth in the export of  natural gas in 2018, the level of losses was  quite high, although after the velvet revolution, technological losses dropped  by 10%.

The prime minister also noted that the number of unknown consumers was reduced by 23%, and the losses in  the distribution network decreased by 30% - from 39.5 million cubic meters in 2017 to 27.5 million cubic meters in 2018.

At the same time, the consumption of natural gas at compressed gas filling stations increased by 15%. "It is clear that all this was due to the reduction in the unreported consumption," said Pashinyan. In 2018, Gazprom supplied 1.94 billion cubic meters of gas to Armenia.

The Russian natural gas is delivered to Armenia by Gazprom at a $165 per one thousand cubic meters, but Gazprom’s Armenian subsidiary - Gazprom Armenia - sells it to Armenian households at almost $300. Gazprom Armenia also deals with the storage, distribution and sale of gas.
