EPA asked to review coal enforcement rules: Cheney

10 May 2001 , 15:23451
The energy task force headed by Vice President Dick Cheney has asked the Environmental Protection Agency to review its enforcement of Clean Air Act rules regulating coal-fired power generation facilities, Cheney said in an interview with CNN Tuesday. Cheney, interviewed live by the network, said EPA Administrator Christie Todd Whitman has been asked to review what some in industry have charged is a toughened enforcement by EPA of portions of the Clean Air Act. The administration could recommend reverting to an old interpretation of the act, which would be less stringent than the interpretation put in place by the prior Clinton administration.
