U.S. Engery Department Urges For Cooperation

Spencer Abraham, the U.S. Energy Secretary, urges other nations to cooperate with the United States on the development of hydrogen fuel technologies in order to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. All developed countries, as well as India, China, South Africa and Brazil should be included.

Hydrogen fuel cells emit very little pollution, but are more expensive than fossil fuels. They are derived mostly from hydrocarbons such as natural gas or gasoline.

The United States intend to spend $1.7 billion over the next five years on hydrogen development. The European Union has committed up to $2 billion for research in the same field.
