Putin and Modi to launch the 2nd unit at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant

On October 15–16, 2016, Vladimir Putin will visit Goa in the Republic of India. During his visit he will hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

 

The two leaders will participate, via videoconference, in the launch of the 2nd unit at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, and the groundbreaking of the 3rd and 4rth reactors.

Following the Russian-Indian programme, Putin will also participate in the 8th BRICS Summit.

 

Russia and India have cooperated for many years in the nuclear sector. In total Russia plans to build in India up to 25 nuclear reactors in different regions.

In December 2014, Moscow and New Delhi signed a document on strategic vision of serial construction of nuclear power units in India by using Russian technologies.

In August 2016, the ceremony of handing over the 1st power unit of NPP Kudankulam to the Indian nation took place.

 

Russian nuclear corporation Rosatom is getting ready to cast first concrete at the construction site of units N3 and N4 of the nuclear power plant Kudankulam in India, Ex-Head of the state corporation Sergei Kirienko said in September 2016.

«We are preparing the first concrete for units N3 and N4 of this plant and until the end of the year we expect to sign documents for the construction of blocks N5 and N6, » he said.

Excavation works for Kudankulam units 3 and 4 are in progress. According to Atomstroyexport, first concrete for the new units will be poured in March 2017.
