28 August 2013 , 10:02Neftegaz.RU1954

SOCAR and BP-Azerbaijan, operator of oilfield block Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli, have successfully completed gas flaring reduction project at Chirag field.

The project was launched in 2010 within the “Environment Year” under the instruction of the President of Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev. A working group established by the companies carried out sustainable measures for reconstruction of gas collecting compressors at Chirag field, improvement of gas reception system on the Oil Rocks operated by the SOCAR’s “Azneft” production association. The project has both economic and environmental benefits, which increase gas supply and prevent air pollution. The volume of gas flaring has been reduced to 2% and greenhouse gas emissions by 265 000 tons.

This is best result in last 20 years.

SOCAR and BP Azerbaijan do not intend to stop on this achievement. They will enhance their efforts to carry out gas flaring to zero through the use of new technologies.
