Tokyo stocks opened higher Wednesday as global crude prices reached a five-month low.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 109.21 points, or 0.89 per cent, to 12,718,68.
On currency markets the dollar was quoted stronger at 108.48-53 yen, up from Tuesday's 5 pm quote of 108.30-32 yen.
The euro was quoted at 1.4510-15 dollars, up from Tuesday9s 5 pm quote of 1.4500-02 dollars, and at 157.43-48 yen, down from 157.04-08 yen.
