To help promote the use of natural gas school buses, which currently meet or exceed federal emissions requirements, SEMCO ENERGY GAS COMPANY is presenting an extensive seminar on clean transportation alternatives. Natural gas, at $.79 per gallon equivalent also currently enjoys a favorable cost comparison to other fuels. The event is scheduled for May 21 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at its 2915 Lapeer Rd. facility.
A robust list of participants, including local legislators, the Ann Arbor Environmental Protection Agency, Michigan's State Energy Office representatives, members of the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition, local school district officials, The Blue Water Transportation Commission, engine manufacturers and the director of the Lower Merion, Pennsylvania School District, which operates 63 natural gas-powered buses, is slated to gather in an exchange of information and experiences regarding alternatives to diesel- powered buses. The City of Ann Arbor is providing a natural gas-powered bus for riding demonstrations.
