Another Terminal Underway

Terminal will be Russia's 'furthest reach' to the west...

Another Terminal Underway

Construction will begin on an oil shipping terminal capable of processing 7 million tons of oil per year in Russia's Kaliningrad Region.

The project is expected to cost approximately $125 million and will be carried out by an as yet to be named Russian oil company. Unlike the five other oil terminals operating in the region, the new terminal will handle larger tankers with a tanker displacement of up to 100 thousand tons. Due to the shallowness of the Kaliningrad sea canal, the other terminals can only accommodate tankers with a maximum tanker displacement of 20 thousand tons. In addition to constructing a freight pier and port infrastructure, investors must also modernize 18 kilometers of railroad leading into Yantarny in order to increase its accessibility. The project should be completed in 2006.
