Russian gas giant Gazprom and Angolan company Sonangol are likely to cooperate in hydrocarbon exploration and output in Angola, the Itar-Tass news agency reported on Tuesday.
A memorandum of the cooperation was signed on Tuesday by Gazprom and Sonangol "providing a possibility for development of cooperation in several areas," Gazprom's first deputy chairman of the board of directors Alexander Medvedev said, adding that initial investment could be 100 million U.S. dollars.
"If geological prospecting yields positive results, resources will be sufficient for the second and maybe even for other phases, and then this will be jointly realized," Medvedev said.
According to Medvedev, Gazprom is also to examine a possibility of cooperation with other countries.
