ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS, operator of production licence 018, has completed the drilling of the HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) wildcat well 2/4-20. The well is located 8 kilometres north of the Ekofisk field in the North Sea, Rigzone reports.
The well was drilled to test two prospective levels of the Middle Late Jurassic and Permian ages which defined the "North Ekofisk" prospect. 2/4-20 was drilled in 68 metres of water to a total vertical depth of 5673 metres below sea level and terminated in Middle Permian rock (the Rotliegendes group).
The well was dry. Reservoir development was proven in both exploration targets, but no hydrocarbons were found, neither in the Jurassic nor Permian levels. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
The well is a commitment well for production license 275, awarded in NST2001 in 2002. However, as the prospect also extends into exploration license 018 to the south, approval was granted, following an application, to drill the well there.
