First ever contract for export of Russian LNG to Kazakhstan is signed

Gazprom Export reported on December 29, 2016, that the company and the Global Gas Regazification (the company of Global Gas Group) signed the 1st ever contract for supply small scale LNG by road transport from Russia to Kazakhstan.

The first LNG cargo will be delivered in December 2016.

All in all more than 5000 tons of LNG, produced by Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg, will be exported to Kazakhstan in 2017.

The 1st site to use Russian LNG is a university in Astana. It is planned that in the future this energy source will be used for gasification of further sites of the Kazakhstan’s capital.

«More active use of natural gas — the most eco-friendly fossil fuel — in big cities is a reasonable trend. I am pleased to note that in addition to the existing cooperation in the pipeline gas trade we are now opening a new chapter in the energy partnership of Russia and Kazakhstan. I am sure that the contract signed will allow us to lay a solid foundation for development of further cooperation in the field of small scale LNG supplies», — Director General of Gazprom Export Elena Burmistrova said.

«The complex gasification program of Astana and North regions of Kazakhstan based on liquefied natural gas emerged on the basis of the President’s instruction and the corresponding decision of the government of Kazakhstan. It’s important to note that the support of Mayor’s office of Astana, Ministry for investments and development of Kazakhstan and other authorities as well as our Russian partners — Gazprom Export and Gazprom Transgaz Yekaterinburg, which believed in the initiative of the young and dynamic company, has played a significant role in the pilot project’s implementation. We believe that, despite its innovative nature, the project will rapidly develop and make the most of the huge potential of our countries’ cooperation and supplying people with such an eco-friendly, commercially efficient and convenient fuel as natural gas», — Director General of Global Gas Group Oleg Goncharov noted.
