RBC reports that during Ortega's stay in Moscow on December 18 and 19, Russian-Nicaraguan high-level talks will take place, during which the sides will discuss bilateral relations and sign several cooperation projects and programs in the economic and energy spheres. Before the visit, the Nicaraguan leader announced that he was prepared to develop relations with Russia in all domains.
Nicaragua is currently the only other nation that has recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia's independence after Russia.
Ortega's visit will be a first by a Nicaraguan leader to Russia in 19 years.
