Hydro And Gazprom: Quid Pro Quo

Russia?s natural gas monopoly Gazprom has shown interest in developing the Norway?s Ormen Lange gas field, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Norsk Hydro Eivind Reiten said.

He declined to discuss the share that Gazprom might have in the Ormen Lange project, which is appeared to be the second-largest gas field of Norway, but said it will depend significantly on Hydro?s possible role in developing the Arctic offshore Shtokmanovsky gas condensate deposit in Russia.

Reiten admitted that Norsk Hydro could take over some experience from Russian oil and gas corporations, adding that Russian counterparts were quite competent in that area.

Shtokmanovsky gas condensate deposit is located in the central part of the Barents Sea. Assessments put its reserves of natural gas at 3.1 trillion cubic meters and gas condensate, at 31 million tons.
