Shell Petroleum Company has bought out its partner BP Kenya.
The deal was approved by the Government two weeks ago, after Shell and BP agreed to a government condition that they sell 13 of their 130 filling stations to the state-owned National Oil Corporation of Kenya.
Of the 13 stations, Shell will relinquish, four have to be in Nairobi. "We have been asked to consider Nock," Kenya Shell managing director Patrick Obath told a media briefing in Nairobi yesterday. Early last year, Shell had announced its intention to buy BP's local assets in a deal involving the purchase of 65 service stations.
Shell has now successfully acquired the 50 per cent shareholding held by BP Africa in Kenya Shell, BP Kenya and Shell & BP (Malindi) Kenya, making them wholly owned subsidiaries of The Shell Petroleum Company
