A new gas power plant about to be installed on the Heimdal platform in the North Sea will reduce the CO2 emissions significantly, according to StatoilHydro.
Combined with a number of other actions the plant will reduce the carbon emissions from the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) by a volume equivalent to the combined emissions from all road traffic in Bergen, the company says.
One of the greatest greenhouse gas cuts will be achieved when the Heimdal platform gets a new gas power plant.
The plant will be lifted on board the Heimdal platform by the heavy-lift vessel Saipem 7000 this Sunday. The energy efficiency and energy recovery of this plant is much better than that of the existing gas power plant. The initiative will reduce the carbon emissions from the plant by 50 000 tonnes, or 55 percent. This represents a 25 percent reduction of the platform’s total carbon emissions. Also the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions will be reduced.
