Reuters reported Statoil said it was not clear how long the shutdown at the Norwegian Sea platform would last, while other North Sea field operators said there were no reports of weather hitting output.
"In other cases like this we have been back up in a few days," StatoilHydro spokesman Geir Gjervan said, adding that 80 out of 120 workers had been evacuated to nearby platforms or to shore.
"We have done this for the last three winter seasons so it should not be a surprise to the market," Gjervan said.
The Aasgard gas and oilfield produced 1.84 billion standard cubic metres of gas, 0.21 million standard cubic metres of oil and 0.26 million standard cubic metres of condensate in October, Norwegian petroleum directorate figures showed.
