The Falklands’ oil dispute has gone to the Organisation of American States, where Argentina will present its case over recent British decisions on mining in the disputed region. The OAS General Assembly has already heard from Argentina about its reaction to the UK’s initiatives over hydrocarbon explorations in the Southwest Atlantic.
The Falklands dispute between Argentina and Britain has escalated again with the arrival of an exploratory UK owned oil rig, which has been drilling for hydrocarbons at an estimated 100 miles to the north of the islands. Argentina has imposed restrictions on vessels travelling to the Islands from Europe, saying it considers that the British operations are already infringing on its sovereignty.
The UK is set to argue before the OAS that British sovereignty over the Islands is not in doubt and it has the right to issue oil licences in Falklands’ waters so an oil industry can be developed.
