Ecopetrol said it has struck oil with a well at the Parmer prospect, its second deepwater discovery in the Gulf of Mexico.
The two Parmer leases are in the Green Canyon Blocks 867 and 823, about 230 km off the Louisiana coast.
The discovery is in Green Canyon Block 867 at a sea depth of 5760 m, where several pressure readings and fluid samples were taken from Miocene sands, Ecopetrol said last month. The data indicate a column of about 73 m of net condensate-rich gas and 12 m of net oil pay. The company said that, during the next few months, it and its partners will reprocess 3D seismic to determine the development plan.
The company said it is seeking a production level of 1 million BOED by 2015 and 1.3 million BOED by 2020.
Ecopetrol America has a 30% interest in the Parmer prospect. Its partners are Stone Energy and operator Apache.
