Iranian President Hassan Rouhani voiced on November 1, 2017, Iran's readiness to cooperate with Azerbaijan in carrying out oil exploration projects in the Caspian Sea.

Speaking at a meeting with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev in Tehran, Rouhani described attraction of finances and trade between the countires, adding, «Iran is ready to cooperate with Azerbaijan in various industrial sectors including oil and gas swap and exploration of oil in the Caspian See region

Rouhani praised the growing ties between Tehran and Baku and said they have set an example for other countries in the region.

Aliyev, for his part, called for closer Tehran-Baku relations. He arrived in Tehran to take part in a tripartite meeting with his counterparts.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Russian President Vladimir Putin is also in Tehran for the trilateral summit.

It’s his 3rd visit to Iran after previously making trips in November 2015 and in 2007.

In August 2016, President Rouhani and his Russian and Azerbaijani counterparts held their 1st tripartite summit in Baku where they discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in the areas of commerce, energy, communications and transit.

The next such summit is to be held in Russia next year.
