The auction will be held in February. Six companies have already applied
Russia's metals giant Norilsk Nickel plans to mine gold in the Amur region, Far east of Russia, according to the deputy chairman of the company's board Maxim Finsky.
The company and the government of the region are negotiating now a possible participation by Norilsk Nickel's subsidiary Polus in the auction for the rights to develop the Bamskoye gold field.
The auction will be held in February. Six companies have already applied.
The Amur region is among Russia's top producers of precious metals. Last year, it mined 14 tons of gold, a record high in the entire 150-year history of gold mining here.
