Gold Plunged $5 On Strong Dollar

Gold futures lost more than $5 Monday, or 1 percent

, pressured throughout the session as the U.S. dollar won back against the other major global currencies.

April contract gold plunged $5.20 to close at $441.60 an ounce, retracing as low as $440.80 during the session on the New York Mercantile Exchange?s Comex division.

"This week is building up to be quite a volatile one," said James Moore of TheBullionDesk.com, emphasizing that data releases on tap "could push the dollar and in turn, gold in both directions."
