Following New York precious metals futures' climbs overnight gold and platinum futures turned higher in early trading on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange Thursday.
The most active February 2009 gold contract opened at 3,072 yen per gram, up 76 yen from Wednesday. Platinum for February 2009 delivery rose 109 yen to 6,538 yen per gram at the opening.Gold futures attracted short covering and buying by bulls following New York gold futures' sharp rebound.
