A 12-inch natural gas pipeline in Riverside, Calif., US, was ruptured Monday during construction work.
Thousands of people were evacuated and a major highway was reopened early Tuesday after crews clamped off the pipeline.
The pipeline accident happened Monday afternoon when a construction crew demolished an overpass. The pipeline burst where Highway 60 intersects Interstate 215.
The California Highway Patrol closed on- and off-ramps of Interstate 215 near the gas leak and Highway 60 was closed in both directions for a five-mile stretch during Monday's rush hour.
