The accident occurred shortly before 5 AM about 3 000m below surface
South Africa?s Gold Fields had an accident in its Kloof Gold Mine shaft, when the ground fell down. AS a result, three people were killed and one injured.
According to the Goldfields spokesperson Willie Jacobs, the accident occurred shortly before 5 AM at the Three Shaft complex, about 3 000m below surface.
"The accident took place after two seismic events shook the mine in short succession," he said. One man has been treated for a minor foot injury and was released from hospital. The names of the deceased could not be released until their next-of-kin have been informed.
Jacobs says the department of minerals and energy is responsible for investigation of the accident.
