NaryanmarNefteGaz, a Russian-American JV between LUKOIL and ConocoPhillips said on Wednesday it was cleaning up an oil spill at its deposit in northern Russia, but that production lever was unchanged.
The company, operating at the South Khylchuyu field, said the spill occured on Feb 4 when a production well was damaged during the drilling of a nearby water well.
About 35 tonnes of oil, water and drilling fluid was spilt over 800 square metres (8611 square ft), a spokesman told Reuters by phone from the firm's headquarters in the region's capital of Naryan-Mar.
"The area has been isolated, there is no risk of spreading the spill. Special measures are being taken to clean up the soil," the spokesman said.
