A refinery source said Thursday that one of the major companies in China, Sinopec, has shut a 1 million mt/year hydro-cracking unit at its 13.5 million mt/year Maoming refinery after a fire in the unit's heating stove late-Wednesday.
The blaze at China's third-largest refinery, in southern Guandong province, broke out at 16.30 local time and was extinguished within two hours, the source said. Other units at the complex were unaffected and there were no injuries, he added.
However production of gasoil, jet fuel and naphtha will be disrupted, the source said. "Jet fuel output is expected to be cut by 20,000 mt in April," he said, from the usual 90,000 mt/month.
State-owned Sinopec had planned to process 1.09 million mt of crude at Maoming in April
