Azerbaijan is an important component of the global energy security market place. The Future of the Oil & Gas Sector in the CIS region

In an interview with international news agency Trend.az,William Lahue, NATO Liaison Officer in the South Caucasus, has stressed the importance of protection from fluctuations for countries with multiple sources of supply. He also stated that “In this process Azerbaijan is going to be important, and its importance is growing.” According to Lahue, Azerbaijan is set to be a transit country for gas imported from the western Caspian Sea region, such as Turkmenistan. Moreover, according to the assessment of the European Commission, the CIS area represents around 40% of the world’s aggregate oil production, and 33% of the total gas generation. In a report released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on 7thJuly, it was reported that Azerbaijan's oil production is expected to remain stable at 0.87 million barrels per day in 2015 and 2016.

In order to gain a competitive advantage, oil and gas organisations must deal with their CIS projects effectively by staying up-todate on the latest improvements in the country and by understanding how to increase productivity and profitability within the region. Oil and gas companies need to focus on learning how to encourage the production of new ventures in the CIS region as well as exploring the benefits of engaging business opportunities so as to benefit from the CIS region’s profitable oil and gas market.
