Zarubezhneft ranked 1st in the Russian oil and gas companies environmental responsibility rating

Moscow, December 9 - Neftegaz.RU. Russian oil and gas company Zarubezhneft ranked 1st in the “Oil and gas companies environmental information transparency rating 2020”. The company’s final grade amounted to 1.8234.

The rating was initiated by the consulting and analytical group CREON and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Their partners were the National Rating Agency and the UN environmental program with the support of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resouces and Ministry of Energy.

Zarubezhneft was able to achieve such results, inter alia, owing to the contribution of its partners – PetroVietnam, Total, Equinor – engaged in its main projects.

“Zarubezhneft pays great attention to the environmental safety matters at all of its enterprises, - comments the Gen. Director of Zarubezhneft Sergey Kudryashov, - We are happy to head this rating which is so important for the modern oil and gas companies. The company plans on further improving its technological processes to achieve higher results in the area of environment protection”.

The rating organizers have highly evaluated the transparency level of Zarubezhneft during its tabletop exercise with engagement of public representatives, indigenous peoples, supervisory authorities and business partners, as well as its programs for conservation of biodiversity in the pandemic conditions. Zarubezhneft successfully implements the federal project “Biodiversity conservation and environmental tourism development” in the framework of the national project “Ecology” with its active participation in support and development of great white crane population.

The company has also confirmed its environmental responsibility and transparency by being the 1st in Russia to obtain the comprehensive environmental permit at Kharyaga PSA in the framework of the federal project “Best available technologies integration” in 2019.

In 2021 Zarubezhneft plans on being the 1st Russian company to integrate the environmental information transparency rating methods this time at its foreign assets. The first one of them hall be Andijanpetro – a joint venture with the Uzbekistan national company Uzbekneftegaz. The organizers have noted the importance and soundness of such initiative for the purpose of further improvement of the environmental responsibility level of all participants of the oil and gas industry.

18 oil and gas companies took part in the rating 2020. The TOP-5 also included the following companies: Surgutneftegaz – 1.7635, Lukoil – 1.7521, Sakhalin Energy (Sakhalin-2) – 1.7304 and Exxon NL (Sakhalin-1) – 1.7009.
