Rosneft subsidiaries release over 700,000 fries of valuable fish into Volga river

Moscow, October 27 - Neftegaz.RU. The subsidiaries of Rosneft operating in the Volga Region have finished the seasonal works of replenishment of aquatic biological resources by releasing more than 700,000 fries of sterlet, common carp, and silver carp into the Kuibyshev, Saratov, Volgograd and Sorochinsk reservoirs.

Releasing the fries brought up in fish farms into their natural habitat is the part of aquatic bioresources artificial reproduction programme designed to preserve the biological diversity and to increase the fish population.

One of Rosneft’s strategy key priorities in all business areas is ecology and environment. According to the Rosneft-2022 Strategy, the company is determined to gain the world industry leadership in the safety and environment.

Samaraneftegas, Orenburgneft, Novokuibyshevsk Refinery, Kuibyshevsk Refinery, Syzran Refinery, Novokuibyshevsk Petrochemical, and Saratov Refinery (the oil and gas producing, refining and petrochemical companies of Rosneft in the Volga Region) hold the events of replenishment of biological resources of the Volga River annually.

Over the last decade, more than 5 million fries of sterlet, common carp, silver carp, and grass carp have been released in the Volga River by Rosneft regional subsidiaries.

The programme on artificial reproduction of aquatic biological resources is based on scientific data from the study of the “main Russian river” by the Volga Basin Ecology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Saratov branch of the Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography, as well as from the conclusions of the Middle Volga and Volga-Caspian Territorial Departments of the Federal Agency for Fishery. Following the assessment of fish resources and habitats, scientists provide recommendations on which fish should be released into the reservoir and at which locations.
