A 9,000-tonne oil slick from the sunken oil tanker Prestige is expected to wash ashore tonight.
Bad weather conditions have hindered attempts to prevent the fuel washing ashore, with the slick expected to hit the coast within hours.
On Saturday, four smaller slicks of heavy fuel oil that leaked from the Prestige before it broke up and sank, taking more than 60,000 tonnes with it to the bottom, were already several kilometres from shore.
The fleet, including two ships from France, two Dutch, one British, one German, one Belgian and one Norwegian vessel, have already managed to sweep up 3,000 tonnes from previous slicks.
