The Canadian government has supported the US Senate decision to prohibit oil and gas drilling project at Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Environmental concerns of the project worried Canadians who feared that wildlife which crossed the border between Alaska and the Canadian Yukon Territory would be adversely affected.
The US Senate on Wednesday voted 52 to 48 to strip language from the 2.2 trillion US dollar budget for financial year 2004 that would have allowed drilling in the 7.7-million-hectare wildlife refuge.
