Russian Oil Pipeline Threatens Environment

The planned pipeline from Siberia to China by Yukos has been raising fears of an environmental disaster.

The Russian Natural Resources Ministry is likely to oppose the propose route. It was planned to lay the pipeline either along the Lake Baikal or through the Tunkinsky National Park.

A pipeline leak in these areas would have fatal consequences for the environment and clean up operations in the region would be difficult.
