Saipem scores €280 million Baltic Pipe deal

Milano, May 5 - Neftegaz.RU. Saipem has won a gas pipeline transportation and installation contract between Denmark and Poland in the Baltic Sea. The contract, signed by its controlled subsidiary in U.K. Saipem, is worth approximately EUR 280 million.

The Baltic Pipe Project is a strategic infrastructure project between GAZ-SYSTEM and Energinet. It will create a new corridor supplying gas from Norway to the markets in Poland, Denmark and also neighbouring countries.

Specifically, the contract comprises the construction of some 275 km x 36” concrete-coated pipeline between Denmark and Poland. Saipem S-lay vessels will carry out the works in water depth between 4 and 57 metres.

Moreover, the contract includes microtunneling and civil works activities in Denmark and Poland, extensive rockdumping as well as pre and post-lay trenching and backfilling activities. Works under the contract will start immediately.

Francesco Racheli, COO E&C Offshore Division, said: “This new contract, assigned thanks to our solid track record in pipeline installation projects and arriving at a critical moment for the energy industry worldwide, will help ensure the continuity of European gas supply and reinforces Saipem’s presence in a such a highly strategic area.”

Vessels preparing the seabed for pipeline installation will mobilise in the Baltic in the 1st half of next year. Likewise, pipelay as such will start in the summer of 2021. The pipeline handover for operation is planned in October 2022.
