Harmony Miners Strike Cut Production And Profit

South African gold producer Harmony Gold is losing around 1.0 million rand ($161,200) and 5,000 ounces in output a day due to a workers? strike that began on Wednesday.

The world's sixth biggest gold miner said that talks to resolve a dispute largely over job losses would resume on Tuesday, after the Easter holidays.

Around 20,000 miners did not come to work for the night shift on Wednesday.

Harmony said it urgently needs to wrap up a restructuring in the Free State, because the shafts were losing around 100 million rand per quarter on average.
