Russia's metals Norilsk Nickel has chosen two men to join the board of SA gold producer Gold Fields, in which Norilsk has a 20% percent stake, the South African company said yesterday.
Sergei Stefanovich and Artem Grigorian were appointed as non-executive directors of Gold Fields on Tuesday. Stefanovich is head of strategic development for Norilsk and Grigorian heads Russian consulting firm RMC.
Earlier this month an industry source told Reuters that Gold Fields and the gold unit of Norilsk, Polyus, want to merge, but South Africa's foreign exchange controls blocked a deal.
