Royal Dutch Shell shut its Capline oil pipeline on Sunday ahead of Hurricane Katrina, according to a spokeswoman Darci Sinclair.
The Capline System links Gulf of Mexico and foreign crude supplies to key refineries throughout the Midcontinent area of the United States. Capline receives some of its volume from offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico and some from the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port.
The port stopped both offshore operations and oil deliveries over the weekend, in preparation for the hurricane.
