ENI Sub Buys Gas-safe Shelter Barge

Agip KCO, the Eni company that operates the offshore Kashagan oil field on behalf of a consortium of seven companies , has confirmed its intention to buy a barge complete with gas-safe shelter for its operations in the Kazakhstani sector of the North Caspian Sea. Uniteam International, HQ in Oslo, Norway, has been awarded the contract with optional deliveries. The contract including options is worth a total of $ 31 million plus.


Agip KCO, to further guarantee the health and safety of its employees, has developed, together with Uniteam, a special barge provided with a modular gas safe enclosure.
The dual purpose of this modular concept is a cost effective solution whereby the building can be used on a daily basis as a canteen for 500 workers, but in the case of emergency can easily become a gas-safe shelter supplied with oxygen, where workers can safely await for evacuation.

The installation will be fully operational by December this year, the short production time being one of the reasons Uniteam was chosen, coupled with its highly mobile, flexible yet cost effective solution.

Det Norske Veritas (DNV) has been selected to approve and certify the complete installation which will have a total weight of more than 1100 metric tonnes.
