Top officials from OPEC and the European Union meet on Friday to discuss ways to stabilize oil markets

Oil prices fell Thursday after sudden rise a day before.

US Light sweet crude for January delivery traded down 25 cents at $57.05 a barrel, on the NYMEX.

London's Brent crude stood at $54.74 a barrel, off 31 cents on the IPE.

Top officials from OPEC and the European Union meet on Friday to discuss ways to stabilize oil markets. The cartel then gathers on Dec. 12 in Kuwait to chart policy for early 2006.
