Gazprom Deputy Chairman Alexander Medvedev said Tuesday that the Russian - Ukrainian gas transportation consortium was supposed to enhance and reconstruct the existent gas transportation system of Ukraine and develop new transportation capabilities.
"We planned to attract not only Germany, but also Italy and French partners into the project."
The Gazprom representative rejected all accusations of Russia's strive to attain control over the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
"We have always stuck to the principle of parity and mutual profitability. Our readiness to cooperate in the project is connected with the need to maintain the system, including its export operations," he stressed.
