The 20 euro cents tax for a liter of fuel may balance the Romanian contribution to environmental funds, Romanian Center for Economy Policies said, Hotnews Romania reported.
The fuel price growth would bring a supplementary fund of 1 billion euros for the state budget.
Still, for the moment, the Environment Minister, Sulfina Barbu, says a decision is too difficult to take, because Romanians are too poor to pay this tax.
?We have to emphasize the fact that any tax must be related to the living standards in a country. It?s true, some countries have an environment tax that reaches 2% of the state budget, but Romania must reach this level gradually?, said Barbu.
