Oman has signed an oil and gas cooperation agreement with Iran that could lead to the sultanate importing a billion cubic metres a day of Iranian gas, Oman's official news agency ONA said on its website.
The memorandum of understanding between the two countries is to develop the joint Bukha-Hengam field along with other fields in Iranian waters and pump the gas to Oman.
The gas would be cooled for export at Oman's Qalhat liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in the wilayat of Sur and exports marketed by a joint Omani-Iranian company, ONA said.
