South Korea has discovered a potentially large gas hydrate deposit off the east coast, the country's Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said on Thursday.
According to the ministry, the deposit is located 135 km northeast of the port city of Pohang in the East Sea (Sea of Japan), and has been determined to have a thickness of about 130 meters.
The thickness of the gas hydrate found in the new site is much greater than that found by Japan, India and China in the past, the ministry said.
