Nordic Mining said on Monday it will cooperate with oil and gas producer StatoilHydro to develop carbon capture technology in minerals as the companies move to cut emissions and save on costs.
"The agreement comprises a joint programme for development and testing of the use of CO2 in processing of various minerals, hence increasing the value of the extracted minerals," Nordic Mining said in a statement.
StatoilHydro has been reinjecting carbon dioxide into its Sleipner field in the North Sea since 1996 and is also involved in a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at a gas-fired power plant at its Mongstad refinery on Norway's west coast.
